1. waterproof: I stood in a mountain stream up to the edge of the ankle cut-outs for 15 minutes with no leakage.
2. breathable: Despite the fantastic waterproofing, my feet feel comfortably vented and dry even with running.
3. comfortable: These are advertised as hiking shoes, not trail runners, but Salomon's slogan is "run your hike". I have completed several 3-4 mile trail runs and 4-5 mild hikes in them and so far they feel fantastic. I'm not sure how the shock absorption would be if you were to take them to asphalt or concrete, but that's not what they are made for anyway. The grip is perfect for mud, rock, and tree roots alike.

As for sizing, I've seen a variety of reviews which baffle me. I have a narrow heel, wide forefoot, and high arches. They fit me perfectly and with the tension lacing it is so easy to loosen or tighten very quickly (also nice for slipping on around the campsite). I wear a 9 in Asics running shoes and a 9.5 in Nike running shoes and the size 9 of this shoe fits perfectly.
