First off, I never review products here on Amazon. In fact, I believe this is my first one... However, these boots are hands down the best boot I have ever owned and felt compelled to write a review. As I often spend hours reading reviews trying to pick the right product as online purchases can be difficult, especially when it comes to clothing and footwear. Because of this, I feel that it would be worth sharing my impressions on this product.

For the first time that I wore these (for about 2 hours), the only issue was that the uppers were rubbing against my legs a bit. However, that was the only discomfort and to be expected from a higher boot on the first wearing. If you are buying these boots, you should be wearing tube socks anyhow. The second and third times that I wore these, the boots were already broken in 90% of the way. After having worn these about 7 times now, I gather that I would be able to wear these on a 5mile trek through the woods without issue already. I bought these to wear while taking my sons on "survival" trips into the woods so they can learn. There is no doubt in my mind they will be perfect for this. They are very rugged like a military boot, yet have the comfort of a hiking boot which is extremely surprising!

I had been considering the Bates Delta-8 and the Bates GX-8 side-zip boots because they were slightly cheaper. However, the Delta-8 did not have the Gore-Tex so I was worried about water and the GX-8 did not have the ICS option. Additionally, neither had Vibram soles and some reviewers stated that the soles were wearing out after a year or two. All reviews on the Vibram soles that I have read stated that they last a long time. The Delta-9 has the Gore-Tex, the ICS option and the Vibram soles so to me it was a "no-brainer". I feel that the decision I made was correct after owning the boots.

The zipper seems to be of high quality(YKK) as does the Velcro mechanism at the top to hold the zipper. They make the boot very easy to slide into and out of. There is a slight tug you have to give to "pop" the heel of your foot into, but I would rather it be that way as I think it helps to cradle your foot more once it is in.

In regards to sizing, I was afraid to order the size I normally take because other reviews that I have read stated that they ran big. However, I normally take a 10 wide and if that is not available, I will get a 10 1/2. I ordered the 10 wide size and they fit PERFECT. I probably could have gotten away with a 9.5 wide, but then I would have lost the ability to wear thick socks or double up if going out in freezing cold weather.

There is some sort of plastic or composite reinforcement in the toe, which is nice to hold the structure of the boot. The comfort system disc is very cool, although I didn't notice a huge difference when switching them around. I gather that this is because the boot was brand new when I tried and the liner was not broken in yet. The inner sole liner was incredibly well made with a molded arch and heel composite material and a ribbed gel material under the heel and forefoot area. The rigidity of the inner sole liner is awesome not only for support but if you are like me and like to pull them out to air out after wearing, they go back in very easily as they hold their shape and do not crumple when inserting them.

I ordered these boots using Amazon Prime shipping and opted for the 1day shipping. I received them the following day for like $3.99 because of Prime. That was a steal for overnight shipping.

If you are reading this review and are considering these boots, I would highly recommend them. I have not had them for very long but just based on the quality Vibram sole, fit and finish of the product and high comfort level that I have experienced, I would have no problem recommending these boots to anyone.
