This is without any doubt a very attractive shoe--a perfect design for the dress/casual look that so many of us are seeking at work these days. The leather looks rich. (I have the mink/brown version.) If you are mainly concerned with appearance, grab these shoes! The quality control is, however, slightly below average on these. (I have to confess that my standard of comparison is the upper range of the Ecco Biom series.) The shoestrings on my pair have irregular--even peeling--plastic ends, and each of the shoes has minor but visible scratches on the instep side. Nothing major though--overall a very fine shoe.

I had hopes that these shoes would have some use as walkers as well--I need very versatile shoes for travel that includes both lecturing and excursions--but these are not very comfortable for walking. Fine for indoors, but they seem a little stiff and uncomfortable for long walks. I think my Seattle Plain Toe GTX dress shoes might be better for walking city streets; their leather is certainly more supple. Again, I admit that I have been spoiled by my Biom running and walking shoes. Those shoes are very light, but they offer perfect support and appropriate cushioning. I also prefer a walking shoe with a natural motion and footfall, but the soles on the Diego Derby are very stiff and the shoe lands and moves in what has become for me an unnatural way. I'm wearing them around the house, but I'm leaning toward returning them. I love the way they look, and they might soften up with regular wear, but I can't take the risk at this cost.

If you want a dress/casual shoe purely for work, mostly indoors, without much setting out for walks, these should do very well. If that were my intended use, and if I hadn't been wearing my Bioms all summer, I would definitely keep them.
