My boots arrived today via Shoozforu Amazon Shop. I cannot rate the boot on it's durability so this review is about fit, comfort, and overall appearance. Since I already wear western boots, I already own boot hooks and a boot jack. The Bergenz is made for them both. I have been wearing Merrell shoes and boots exclusively since 1998 So I am somewhat biased you could say, but in terms of fit the Bergenz is as true to size and any other Merrell footwear I have ever experienced. They are comfortable, very comfortable, They look very good and seem well put together; I appreciate the triple stitching to the uppers and the heel cap especially. Lots of other shoe manufactures do not do this. They have all the looks of a heavy duty and heavy boot, but compared to my Merrell hiking boots these things are deceivingly light, which makes an 8 to 10 hour day wearing them a pleasure. My only tiny issue is, I do not need the tiny metal tag on the top outside of the uppers that say "waterproof"...No Foul here, but not really necessary Merrell.

UPDATE: 12/08/12 I still love the comfort of my boots but have noticed that only after a year a couple of this have happened. Problem 1: On a 14 day camping trip in the bush of the Ottawa Valley [with a great deal of wet weather] while hiking through grassy terrain my so called "water proof boots" took on water which soaked my socks, not as one might think wading across streams at all...NOT a good thing with unexpected temperature drops, which happened. I think the problem may have resulted from a breakdown of the rubber seam on the lowers..I'm going to "snow seal them even though the lowers of the boots are of course suede. Problem 2: The heel section has begun wearing out to the extent that the small outer sections obviously meant as cushioning, developed holes, just plain worn through..My last pair of Merrell water proof boots ___noise___ 1000 were "as advertised" and with Vibram soles...So I'm dropping 2 stars for the two unexpected flaws...and may pursue this problem with Merrell themselves.

Epilogue: I've been wearing Merrell shoes and boots EXCLUSIVELY for over12 years and have steadily watched the quality of their products decline in maybe the last 4 to 5 years...
