I am a long time buyer/user of the Salomon line of shoes. The X Ultra GTX is waterproof, light weight, supportive, and has a great fit. The room and protection in the toebox are what first drew me too there trail running shoes.I live in the Pacific Northwest, and I like being able to go on a hike, and then proceed with my day around town. All without concerns about the weather, or the weight of my footwear. These suit that purpose for me perfectly.
The speed lacing system, is durable (kevlar lacing), and provides a fast, comfortable, custom fit. Which allows for making performance adjustments when going from walking, to climbing, to bouldering during a hike. I have owned different versions of these shoes and never worry about chaffing, blisters or sore feet. The have excellent grip on the trail and they always keep my feet dry.
Although I mention good grip on trail, watch out for manhole covers or metal grates in city streets during rain or snow. They seem extra slippery in those situations.
