Giro 2013 Men's Privateer Mountain Bike Shoes (Black/Gum - 45) Review

My last good pair of cycling shoes were SIDI dominator shoes with velcro and ratchet straps. I don't have a wide or narrow foot and typically fit into 44 size. I grabbed the 44.5 GIRO Privateer to accommodate a heavy sock for winter, but the shoe fits very snug. (I should get winter specific shoes anyway since booties only last a season if that!) the fit is excellent and the insole has good arch support and it seems there are optional foot beds for the shoe that have adjustable arch supports but I received standard foot beds and they are nice. the ratchet and straps function well and can be clasped or undone with one hand and are replaceable. The one complaint about the SEDI's is that the lugs of the sole were very hard and slip on granite which is very prevalent on New England trails... I have not been slipping in these GIRO Privateer shoes! The fit, construction, and the enclosure system is excellent. I also use crank brothers pedals and there are shims to space the cleat, they should be used with these shoes because the lugs are deep and may bottom on the platforms of the Candy or Mallet models.
