In the few weeks that I have had these boots, I've enjoyed them very much. They are form fitting but still allow you to tuck in your pants. You can also adjust how snug you want to wear them with the elastic string. The elastic string isn't very thick so the elasticity may wear over time. The side zipper is a plus for me getting in and out of the boots quickly. I live in a very cold and snowy place so I find I need to wear some thick socks to keep my feet really warm while walking through the snow. But on warmer days, 30 degrees +, I can wear regular socks. They are very comfortable, like wearing sneakers. The traction is good in the snow but not good on ice, so be aware of that. I ordered these a half size bigger but I wish now that I would have ordered my normal size. Even with thicker socks, I still have room. So I would say these are true to size. My friend ordered the same pair of boots and she said the same thing.
