For the past two years I have been wearing zero drop shoes, notably Vibram FiveFingers and GoLite. I have tried some of the New Balance products but never found one that my feet really liked. FiveFingers put you very close to the ground, GoLite not so much with additional cushioning. Once you start wearing zero drop shoes, everything with any kind of heal feels weird and unbalanced. I have returned more shoes than purchased due to this problem... you just cannot tell by looking at a shoe exactly how much the drop may be. That is why when I see a spec like "4mm Drop / 10mm Cush / 21mm Stack Height", I know that someone else thinks this is important. Someone at Merrell!Coming from my normal barefoot shoes, the lift is barely noticeable. I knew as soon as I put them on they were keepers. The fit is good, and while I can wear 11 or 11.5, depending on how the toe box is configured, the Proterra Sport has a slightly boxy toe box, making 11 great. Drenching rain in the Pac NW proved water proof quality. Very comfortable. If you don't need Gore-Tex maybe try the non-Gore model.
