I have to be up front, I don't subscribe to the minimalist epidemic that is going around the running world right now. However there is something to be said for getting away from the more traditional running shoe. A normal running shoe is big and bulky and doesn't really encourage an efficient gait. However you can, like everything else in the world, have too much of a good thing, which is the case with these extreme minimalist shoes that are out on the market right now. These shoes have a low drop (difference in height between the back and the front of the shoe) to encourage a more efficient mid-foot strike and have 11mm of padding, which new independant research has shown is about perfect. So, enough of all that on to the shoe. Over the past nine months I have had 2 pairs (technically the original GoRuns) of these and am just starting on these (GoRun 2s) now. I run about 100mi a month and I get about 4 months out of them, which is about typical for any running shoe. I love the fit and feel of these as they are designed as a sockless running shoe. As a triathlete who doesn't wear socks during races up to the 70.3 distance (half-marathon run) these are perfect and I don't get any blisters at all. The original Go Runs had a more pronouced "bump" under the arch and if the truth be told I really liked that as while running it provided an excellent arhc support for your foot, the Go Run 2s have a less pronouced "bump" but seem to provide pretty good support for the foot. The soles of the shoes of the original GoRuns is where I have my only complaint, to keep the shoes so lightweight there is hardly any "traditional" rubber in the sole but most of the sole is made of the foam padding called "resalyte" which seems to wear slightly faster than the harder rubber used for the "impulse sensors" that are made of more traditional rubber material. Overall, though these are an excellent shoe that has replaced my racing flats as well as my tradional running shoes.

Thorogood Men's American Heritage Boot,Black,10.5 D US Review

I bought these about six weeks ago and went ahead and ordered my regular size without being able to try on a pair. I was considering the Red Wings that are somewhat comparable but much more expensive. I decided to take a gamble on these because I wanted a good durable boot that was made in the U.S.A. These are very beautiful boots if you like the style. They look better than the pictures in fact. Very heavy duty etc. I carefully cut off the little U.S.A. flag tags (see photos) with an exacto knife... it's not hard. I wanted boots made in the U.S.A. but don't need to advertise the fact on both feet. Just my taste and if you like the flags by all means leave them on. Very nice vibram soles and can be resoled. The boots took a little bit of breaking in and may run a little large. At first they rubbed my heel a bit but now after a little breaking in they fit perfectly and don't rub. I do wear a thick pair of cotton socks with them but you'd probably want to do this anyway. It's possible I could have ordered a size smaller. Although I like the fit of the pair I have so it would be a close call. They definitely run a bit bigger than the marked size but not a full half-size larger like Red Wings. More like 1/4 size larger. Don't be put off by that though. Order your regular size and you will get slightly larger fit and will probably want to wear with thick socks after a break-in period. If you order down by half a size then the boots will probably be a bit tight, but most likely will break in to your comfort. I am very happy with my purchase and am proud to support quality U.S. products.

July 28, 2012 update: Still very happy with these boots. A couple of notes. They are good for walking around town on concrete, and are still very comfortable after more than a year. The only negative I have noticed is that the "drill vamp" lining in the toe area wears through pretty quickly. It might be better to have no lining (which is the result of it wearing through anyway) if a leather lining is not possible at this price point. I won't deduct any stars because I still love these boots. You won't see many other people around wearing these boots. They definitely have an old-school "On the Waterfront" look to them. The white soles give a great grip on concrete and other smooth hard surfaces. They seem to wear somewhat quickly compared to dark vibram soles, though I think this is normal and to be expected. I will probably look at having them resoled in another year or so, wearing them about two or three days a week.

UGG Australia Women's Caspia Casual Shoes,Gravy Leather,5 US Review

Shipment on these boots was very prompt and they were well packaged. Nice boots, although, based on the picture angles, I had thought they would be a little bit more streamlined and dressy looking, since I wanted them to be low heel alternative to my 2 1/2" heeled insulated winter dress boots. They actually are quite casual and boxy looking - I've never had UGG footwear before, but I assume this is the signature UGG shape. But they are nice looking boots nonetheless - not too casual and not too dressy. I don't think they would be all that good for seriously cold weather, but will probably be fine for temps in the 20's or 30's, with warm socks, and I know already that they will be comfortable indoors, so I won't have to take a second pair of shoes with me to the office.

I wear a perfect size 7 1/2 in shoes and size 8 shoes are ALWAYS too large, but I went ahead and ordered these in a size 8 anyways, and they are a perfect fit with regular socks. Plenty of toe wiggle room and no tight spots. I'll probably wear these constantly from fall to spring, so they'll prove worth the money.

MAJOR REVISION !!!!!!

I wrote the above based on only wearing the boots indoors and rated them a '5' based on that. But now I've worn them outside and it's a whole different story. It's in the lower forties here in Virginia - cold and rainy. I went grocery shopping, parked my car a fair distance from the store and walked across the parking lot. By the time I got to the store, the bottom of my feet were cold - the cold and damp from the pavement went right through the soles of the boots.

But the best part came when I got home. I had to step very briefly into a shallow puddle while reaching into my car's trunk. I only stepped in it for maybe two seconds, but that was enough. These might as well be sandals as far as water resistance is concerned. I wouldn't have thought that a brand new pair of boots, even if listed as NOT waterproof, would put up so little resistance to water.

So my new revision is - if you're only going to wear these inside, or only wear them outside on balmy days when there is no rain in sight, then these are the boots for you. But if you are actually looking for any protection from the elements, look elsewhere. Maybe these are a defective pair, but at this price, this kind of 'defect' shouldn't be a possibility.

I'll give them two stars because they are decent looking and comfortable, as long as you stay out of the cold and away from water. As for me, I'll go back to wearing the leather sneakers I bought at the discount store when running errands. They are more trustworthy in bad weather.
