This is probably the best hybrid of a comfort show with a dress shoe that I have ever owned. I work in a Wall Street firm where the elevator is full of very high end shoes. I'm not a banker and I don't make banker money, but I like to not stand out as the guy with the cheap shoes. These shoes have a nice Italian shape and hold their own against the much the more expensive shoes and they do so while feeling almost like a sneaker. When I get home from work, I find myself leaving them on rather than kicking them off like my other, less-comfortable dress shoes.

In order for a shoe to really be good for walking it must have a flexible sole, hence the rubber sole. I find these rubber soles to be very unobtrusive (I was worried about this from the product shots), and I actually appreciate the honesty of them -- they are not trying to look like fake leather, yet it isn't really noticeable that they are not leather. Flexible soles put a lot of demand on the leather of the upper to flex along with them, and fortunately, Rockport uses leather that is better than what one usually gets with a shoe in this price range.

I was so happy with this shoe that I bought 2 more in the same line for myself and 1 for my partner. Two notes: The tan leather ones use particularly nice leather and since the shoes do flex alot, they all benefit from shoe trees between wearing.
